See Tim Montana and the Shrednecks' Live, Rowdy 'Cowboys on the Run'

Tim Montana and the Shrednecks recently wrapped up a new studio EP that expands on the Nashville group's brand of Southern rock, country and hip-hop beats. Expected sometime this spring, the record, produced by David Fanning and Ben Stennis, features a collaboration with Kid Rock, the rowdy "Cowboys on the Run." Written by the band's namesake leader and Rock, the song is a restless soul's anthem, highlighting the life of a traveling musician just trying to make ends meet.

Rock tapped the long-bearded Montana and his rebellious gang of players to open his New Year's Eve show at the Scott Trade Center in St. Louis. To document the night, Montana filmed his live performance of "Cowboys on the Run" using a series of GoPro cameras set up around the stage, including one on his mic stand and another on the neck of a guitar. The result is a dizzying, whirlwind video that puts the viewer in the middle of Montana's ferocious set.

Montana, one of Rolling Stone Country's Artists You Need to Know, is a native of Montana, where he was reared on a diverse range of music. "My earliest musical memory was I found this Marlboro Country mixtape with songs by Charlie Daniels and Ronnie Milsap – that my mom smoked a lot of cigarettes to earn. Then a week later, I found a Guns N' Roses tape. I chuckle now, but our sound is the perfect combo of those first two tapes," he says.

Montana and the Shrednecks are currently on the road, and will perform at the Off the Rails Country Music Fest on May 7th in Frisco, Texas, opposite headliners Jason Aldean and Dierks Bentley.
